What is the difference between a workshop and a retreat?
Humble Creative Society is a global community for working creatives — built around the belief that the richest life is lived through experience, connection, and the relentless pursuit of craft.
Founded by New York commercial photographer Simon Lewis — with over two decades of experience and work spanning nearly 70 countries — Humble Creative Society brings together photography, food, culture, adventure, and ritual into a single, integrated creative life. We call these our Five Threads, and they run through everything we do.
Our workshops and retreats take small groups of serious photographers and curious creatives to extraordinary places. From our commercial photography masterclass in Maine — a five-day immersive experience with real client briefs, critiques, and team-building at a private lake estate — to our luxury creative retreat in Marrakech, where a week of photography, food, culture, and adventure unfolds inside a world-renowned private villa. These are not passive experiences. They are transformative ones.
Our consulting and coaching programs are built for photographers ready to go deeper into their craft and their business. Whether you need a portfolio review, a pricing strategy session, a brand audit, or guidance on integrating AI into your photography workflow, our one-on-one sessions with Simon Lewis give you the clarity and direction that years of commercial experience can provide.
At the heart of it all is a simple conviction: knowing everything is the end of growth. We stay curious. We stay humble in process, bold in vision — and we create experiences that stay with you long after you've come home.
Working photographers, creative professionals, and curious, culturally-minded people who want to go deeper — in their craft, their business, and their life. Whether you're a seasoned commercial photographer looking to sharpen your edge, or a creative professional who wants to experience the world differently, Humble Creative Society was built for you.
Simon Lewis is a New York-based commercial photographer with over two decades of experience working across nearly 70 countries. His work spans luxury lifestyle, food, travel, and editorial — and his clients have included some of the world's most recognised brands. He founded Humble Creative Society to go beyond the brief: to teach, share, and create experiences that stay with people long after the camera goes away.
Our workshops, like Elevate in Maine, are intensive skill-focused experiences — built around commercial photography technique, real client briefs, critiques, and professional development. Our retreats, like Creative Immersion Marrakech, are broader and deeper — weaving photography together with food, culture, adventure, and ritual across a full week in an extraordinary location. Both are small, intimate, and led by Simon Lewis.
How small are your groups?
Intentionally small. Our workshops and retreats are capped at nine participants. This isn't a conference or a course with hundreds of students — it's a close group, working and experiencing together. That intimacy is the point.
What experience level do I need for your photography workshops?
We will be hosting workshops designed for working photographers and serious enthusiasts with a solid foundation and others for beginners. If you're unsure whether your experience level is a fit for a certain program, reach out and we'll have an honest conversation.
What is the Elevate Photography Masterclass?
Elevate is a five-day commercial photography masterclass held at a stunning private lake estate in Maine. It's built around real-world simulations — client briefs, shoots, critiques, and team dynamics — the kind of experience that mirrors actual commercial photography assignments. Led by Simon Lewis, with nine spots available. June 2026.
What is the Creative Immersion Marrakech retreat?
Creative Immersion Marrakech is Humble Creative Society's signature luxury retreat — a week-long experience at a private, world-renowned villa in Marrakech, Morocco. It weaves together photography, food, culture, adventure, and ritual across seven days in one of the world's most extraordinary cities. November 2026.
What are the Five Threads?
The Five Threads are the framework at the heart of everything Humble Creative Society does: Photography, Food, Culture, Adventure, and Ritual. They represent our belief that a rich creative life isn't just about one discipline — it's about how all of these things connect and feed each other.
What photography consulting services do you offer?
We offer a range of one-on-one consulting sessions with Simon Lewis, including portfolio reviews, pricing strategy, brand and marketing audits, and AI workflow sessions for photographers. Each session is 60 minutes and focused entirely on your specific situation. Monthly mentorship programs are also available for photographers who want ongoing guidance.
How much does photography coaching cost?
Individual consulting sessions are priced at $350 per session. Our monthly mentorship program — which includes two hour-long coaching sessions per month plus feedback between sessions — is $600 per month. All sessions are conducted online.
What is The Weave?
The Weave is our consulting and mentoring program for photographers and creatives who are ready to go deeper into their business, their brand, and their craft. It's not a course — it's a direct, ongoing relationship with Simon Lewis, built around where you are and where you want to go.
Do I need to be a professional photographer to book a consulting session?
Not necessarily. While our sessions are built around commercial photography practice, they're relevant to any photographer serious about their work and their business — whether you're transitioning to professional work, growing an existing practice, or trying to position yourself more effectively in a competitive market. You could also just be interested in a certain topic and wanting to learn more in a one on one environment!
Where are your workshops and retreats held?
Our 2026 programs are held in Maine, USA (Elevate, June) and Marrakech, Morocco (Creative Immersion, November). Our 2027 programs include Montana and Bogotá, Colombia. We deliberately choose locations that are extraordinary in their own right — places that feed the work, not just frame it.
How do I book a workshop, retreat, or consulting session?
You can find full details and booking information for each program on its dedicated event page. For consulting sessions, use the booking form on our consulting page. If you have questions before booking, reach out to us at info@wearehumble.co — we're happy to talk through whether a program is the right fit for you.
How do I stay informed about new programs?
The best way is to join the Society — subscribe to our list and you'll hear about new programs, journal entries, and offerings before they're announced publicly. Some of our best experiences won't be widely advertised.
