There are cities that seduce you slowly. And then there is Bogotá.
Loud and tender in equal measure. Ancient and wildly alive. A city where a Nobel Prize-winning literary tradition lives in the same breath as some of the most exciting food, art and craft culture in the world. Where the markets overflow with colour that has no name, and where the land itself carries a spiritual history that predates every building in sight.
For six extraordinary days, Humble Creative Society brings you inside it. Not as a visitor. As a maker, a cook, a host, and a creative — guided by founder Simon Lewis and one of the most celebrated food stylists and cookbook authors working today.
This is Bogotá. And it will get under your skin.
About our hosts-
Mariana Velásquez is a Creative Director in Food Experiential with more than a two decades of experience in New York’s most celebrated culinary circles and publications across the globe. A tastemaker who explores the juxtaposition of food, fashion and art, Mariana’s work is an edible canvas where she invites the viewer to eat with their senses.
She has also published two cookbooks, one exclusively on the food of Colombia and another new release called Revel- A Maximalist's Guide to Having People Over [A Hosting Cookbook]
Simon Lewis is a global Photographer who has a deep love and appreciation for food and and a finely made beverage. As a Commercial Photographer based in New York he has shot for food and beverage names such as Patron Tequila, Daily Harvest, Bon Appetit and more but time treasured beyond that is in the kitchen. He has shopped markets and souks from the Middle East to the Australian Outback and loves nothing more than cooking and sharing those flavors with his favorite people.
THE EXPERIENCE
Day One — La Bienvenida
You arrive. You settle in. And then Mariana Velásquez sets the table for the week ahead — quite literally. The first evening is a welcome dinner in her signature style, an introduction to Colombian hospitality at its most generous and beautiful.
By the time you finish eating, you will already understand what this week is about.
Day Two — The Market & The Kitchen
Bogotá's Paloquemao market is one of the great sensory experiences in South America. Flowers stacked to the ceiling. Fruits with no English name. Spices and herbs and abundance in every direction. We move through it with Mariana as your guide — learning to see, to choose, to understand what Colombian ingredients mean and where they come from.
Simon Lewis moves with you, teaching you to find the photographs inside the chaos. Back at base, the afternoon belongs to the kitchen. The morning's discoveries become the afternoon's meal, guided by Mariana from market bag to finished dish.
Day Three — The Art of the Table
A beautiful meal is only half the story. This morning, Mariana teaches you the other half — how to dress a table with intention, instinct and beauty. Flowers, objects, light, texture, rhythm. The kind of knowledge that transforms a dinner party into an experience.
The afternoon takes us to the artisans who supply Plaza Bolívar — makers of extraordinary handwoven and ceramic objects rooted in Colombia's diverse craft heritage. We visit their studios, hear their stories, and take part in a hands-on making workshop. What you create today will sit on the table at the final night's party.
Day Four — Into the Coffee Region
We leave the city behind for an overnight adventure into Colombia's legendary coffee region — a landscape of mist-covered mountains, impossibly green hillsides and one of the world's great agricultural stories. We visit a working coffee plantation to understand the full journey from plant to cup, guided by the people who know it best.
This is Colombia in its most elemental form — wild, fertile and breathtaking. Overnight accommodation provided on a stunning coffee plantation.
Day Five — Return & The Limpia
We return to Bogotá carrying something of the landscape with us. The afternoon is set aside for one of the most profound experiences in the Humble portfolio — a Limpia ceremony with a Mhuysqa Curandero.
The Mhuysqa are the indigenous people whose ancestral land Bogotá sits on, and the Limpia is their sacred cleansing ritual — a deeply personal ceremony of herbs, smoke, water and prayer that clears, restores and resets. To participate in this tradition in the city built on Mhuysqa land is a rare and humbling privilege. We approach it with open hearts and complete respect.
Day Six — The Photograph & The Party
The week has been building toward this. This morning, Simon leads a food photography masterclass using Mariana's food and the table you spent the week learning to dress — bringing the Photography and Food threads together in one luminous session.
The afternoon is yours to prepare. And then the evening arrives. The party you have been quietly assembling all week — the food you learned to cook, the table you learned to dress, the objects you made with your hands — comes to life as a full celebration.
The artisans join you. The coffee farmer joins you. Local creatives, friends and guests fill the room. Mariana guides you through hosting with the confidence and grace she has spent a career perfecting. This is not a farewell dinner. It is the best party you have thrown in years.
THIS RETREAT IS FOR YOU IF: You have always believed that a beautiful table is an act of creativity. You think the best way to understand a culture is to cook its food and meet the people who make its objects. You want to come home from a trip not just rested but genuinely changed — with new skills, new friendships, and a new relationship with beauty and the way you gather people around you.
